1pm - Montreal vs. McMaster - McMaster 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-20)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2011) - The McMaster Marauders bounced back on day two action of the Coast-to-Coast Classic as they topped the Montreal Carabins in three straight sets 25-20, 25-23 and 25-20.
Jeremy Groenveld of Welland, Ont. was named player of the match for the Marauders while Christian Savoie of Bathurst, N.B. was player of the match for the Carabins. The outside hitter Groenveld finished with nine kills and a .190 kill percentage in the match. Savoie led all Carabins with nine kills with a ill percentage of .353.
The Marauders and Carabins were locked at 15 each in the first set before the Marauders were able to take charge. Montreal put forth a strong charge in the second set but the Marauders were able to take the frame 25-23. The Marauders then prevailed in set three to take the match. With the win McMaster advances to the fifth place game tomorrow at 9am against the Western Mustangs. The Carabins will play the Queen's Gaels for seventh place.

3pm – Queen's vs. Western - Western 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-22)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2011) - The Western Mustangs defeated the Queen's Gaels in straight sets thanks to a strong offensive performance. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.
Phil James of Ottawa was named player of the match for the Mustangs while Michael Amoroso took home the honour for the Gaels. James was one of the Mustangs top offensive performers and their most efficient as he tallied nine kills on 15 attacks for a .533 kill percentage. Amoroso was strong in the middle of the court again for the Gaels as he accumulated seven kills and a .357 kill percentage as the Gaels most efficient player.
The Mustangs were propelled by their strong offensive play as the team put together a 39 assist performance and a .322 kill percentage. The Gaels, who played several first year players in the game, ultimately couldn't sustain enough offence against a very veteran Mustangs squad.
The Mustangs will now move on to face the McMaster Marauders in the fifth place game at 9 am on Sunday. The Gaels return to action Sunday night at 3 pm when they face the Montreal Carabins to close out the Coast-to-Coast tournament in the seventh place game.

6pm – Calgary vs. UBC - UBC 3-2 (22-25; 19-25; 25-23; 25-13; 19-17)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2011) - The UBC Thunderbirds topped the Calgary Dinos in a five set thriller to win 3-2. Set scores were 22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-13 and 19-17.
Chris Klassen of Vancouver was named player of the game for the UBC Thunderbirds while Calgary's Andrew Visser was named player of the game for the Dinos. Klassen was a force for UBC on offence and defence as he had two kills on four attacks, while orchestrating the passing game with 26 assists. He also added eight digs on defence. Visser was one of Calgary's top scorers in the game with 10 kills while providing support on defence with 14 kills.
The Dinos appeared to be in the control of the game through the first two sets as they took both frames with ease over the Thunderbirds. UBC responded in the third set by pulling out a tight 25-23 win which seemed to turn the tide. After the Thunderbirds dominated the fourth set with a 25-13 win, the two teams played down to the wire in the tiebreaker. UBC snuck a kill in front of Calgary's back line to seal the game.
With the win, the Thunderbirds move on to Sunday's gold medal at 1 pm against the Alberta Golden Bears. Calgary will play for bronze against the UNB Varsity Reds.

8pm – UNB vs. Alberta - Alberta 3-0 (25-18; 25-14; 25-22)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2011) - The Alberta Golden Bears were dominant in a 3-0 straight set victory over the Alberta Golden Bears. Set scores were 25-18, 25-14 and 25-22
Jarron Mueller of Calgary was named player of the game for the Golden Bears while Julio Fernandez of Los Teques, Venezuela was the player of the match for the Varsity Reds. Mueller was the key playmaker on the Alberta offence as he had a team high 27 assists for the Golden Bears. He was also a timely attacker with three kills on three attacks. Fernandez was the Varsity Reds top attacking option as he had a team high 12 kills with a .320 kill percentage. He also added six digs and a block on defence.
The Golden Bears were in control of play from the opening serve of the game as they were dominant on offence and defence during the first two sets. The Varsity Reds made a game of it in the third set with a late push but ultimately could not hold the Golden Bears off the scoresheet.
With the win Alberta will take on UBC in Sunday's gold medal game at 1 pm on Sunday while the Varsity Reds will play the Calgary Dinos for bronze in the 11 am tilt.

1pm – Calgary vs. Montreal - Calgary 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-23)

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 14, 2011) - The Coast-to-Coast Classic tournament kicked off on Friday afternoon as the Montreal Carabins faced off against the Calgary Dino's. The Dinos started their tournament in impressive fashion with a 3-0 straight set victory over the Carabins. Set scores were 25-13, 25-23, 25-23.
Allen Meek of Sherwood Park, Alta. was named player of the match for the Dinos while Mathieu Poirier of Gatineau, Que. was named player of the match for the Carabins. Meek had nine kills for the Dinos and a .250 kill percentage to lead the Dinos in both categories. Poirier only contributed one kill to the Carabins effort but had a team high 23 assists in the loss.
The Dinos controlled the play in the first set en route to their big first set victory. The Carabins rebounded with strong performances in the second and third sets but ultimately could not hold leads long enough to come away with a set win of their own.
Calgary will play in Saturday night's 6 pm against UBC while Montreal will return to action on Saturday at 1 pm against the Marauders.

KINGSTON, Ont. (Le 14 Octobre, 2011)- Le tournoi Coast-to-Coast a débuté Vendredi après-midi lorsque les Carabins de Montréal ce sont opposé au Dinos de Calgary. Les Dinos on débuté le tournoi avec une victoire très impressionnante de 3 set à 0. Le pointage était de 25-13, 25-23 et 25-23.
Allen Meek de Sherwood Park, Alta. a été nommé le joueur du match pour les Dinos tant disque Mathieu Poirier de Gatineau, Que. a été nommé celui des Carabins. Meek a contribué 9 points avec un pourcentage d’attaque de .250, le meneur de son équipe dans les deux catégories. Poirier n’a seulement contribué à un point mais a mené son équipe avec 23 assistes lors du match.
Les Dinos n’ont donné aucune chance au Carabins lors du premier set, en contrôlant le jeu en route vers une victoire décisive de 25-13. Les Carabins sont revenus fort lors du deuxième et troisième set mais ils n’ont jamais pu soutenir l’effort assez longtemps pour remporter un set.
Avec leur victoire, Calgary va affronter le gagnant de la partie entre McMaster et UBC samedi à 18 heure tant disque Montréal va affronter le perdant entre les Marauders et les Thunderbirds à 13 heure samedi.

3pm – McMaster vs U.B.C. - U.B.C. 3-1 (25-21; 25-20; 23-25; 25-22)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 14, 2011) - The Coast-to-Coast Classic tournament got a great second game as the UBC Thunderbirds edged the McMaster Marauders with a 3-1 victory. Set scores were 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-22.
Thibault Bennet of Vancouver was named player of the game for the Thunderbirds while Jori Mantha of Ottawa was named player of the game for the Marauders. Bennet was one of the most efficient Thunderbirds as he put up 13 kills at a .344 percent efficiency. He also had six digs and a block to help the T-Birds defensive effort. Mantha was put up similar numbers for McMaster as he had 16 kills at a .344 percentage. On defence he added six digs and a block as well.
This was a closely contested game between the two squads. UBC won the first two sets in large part due to strong blocking along the net. McMaster was evenly matched with the Thunderbirds but could only manage to win the third set to prolong the game. With the two teams tied at 19 in the fourth, UBC pulled ahead with good serving and defence.
With the win UBC moves on to play the Calgary Dinos at 6 pm on Saturday. McMaster will play in the first game of the afternoon on Saturday when they take on Montreal at 1 pm.

6pm – Queen’s vs. New Brunswick - New Brunswick 3-1 (24-26; 28-26; 25-21; 25-23)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 14, 2011) - The UNB Varsity Reds beat out the host Queen's Gaels in four sets by a 3-1 margin. Set scores were 24-26, 28-26, 25-21, and 25-23.
Brett LeDrew of Clarenville, Nfld. was named player of the game for the Varsity Reds while Mike Tomlinson of Stratford, Ont. took home the honour for the Gaels. LeDrew was solid on offence and defence for the Varsity Reds as he posted a .333 kill percentage to go with his single dig and three blocks. Tomlinson was the Gaels' star on the evening as he posted a game high 18 kills at a .300 efficiency rate. He also added four digs and a block to his stat line.
The Gaels struggled to overcome injuries and couldn't muster enough for the win against a resilient UNB squad. Both teams fought back from deficits in sets to force tiebreakers with strong play around the net. In the fourth set the Gaels looked as though they could force a fifth set tiebreaker, but couldn't hold a one point lead and fell.
With the win UNB moves on to play the winner of Alberta and Western at 8 pm on Saturday. The Gaels will play the loser of the Golden Bears and Mustangs matchup at 3 pm.

8pm – Western vs. Alberta - Alberta 3-0 (25-19; 25-19; 25-22)
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 14, 2011) - The Alberta Golden Bears topped the Western Mustangs 3-0 in straight sets with a solid all-around team performance. Set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-22.
Mitch Irvine of Red Deer, Alta. was named player of the game for the Golden Bears while Sean McKay of Sudbury, Ont. was named player of the game for the Mustangs. Irvine was the go-to hitter for the Golden Bears as he recorded 12 kills at a .409 efficiency rate to lead his team. He also added three digs and four blocks to the defensive effort. McKay was the Mustangs top passer wit ha game high 29 assists. On defence he added four digs for Western.
The Golden Bears controlled play from the beginning of the game with solid passing on offence as well as timely digs on defence. The Mustangs produced solid offensive stretches but ultimately couldn't sustain their offence for long enough stretches to come away with the victory.
With the win the Golden Bears move on the play the UNB Varsity Reds at 8 pm on Saturday while Western will take on Coast-to-Coast host and OUA rival the Queen's Gaels at 3 pm.
