Dave Descent, long time Men's Hockey Booster Club President, is was recognized for his remarkable volunteer career with the Queen's Men's Hockey team and received an Outstanding Gael Award at the Paul Stothart Memorial Golf Tournament on Tuesday. Beginning as the team manager in 1968, Dave has been involved with the team in various roles for almost 50 years.

Since the inception of the Men's Hockey Alumni Booster Club, Dave has acted as President and "face of the alumni" while providing an invaluable link between players, coaches and alumni of the men's hockey program. With coaches/players changing over the years, Dave has remained a constant – always willing to share the team's history with new coaches and committed to doing whatever he can to ensure the program continues to succeed. Dave's dedication to men's hockey is unrivalled – along with his fellow alumni executive, he has worked to ensure that the program has always moved forward towards success.

His fundraising efforts year round have been critical to the achievements of the current team – with a schedule of regular communications in season, alumni engagement events, and willingness to talk about the program with any person who is interested, Dave has ensured that men's hockey alumni have the ability to feel connected to the current coach and team.

Darcy Greenaway and Alex Stothart were also recognized for their remarkable contributions to the team as co-winners of the 2017 Paul Stothart award. This was extra special for Alex as the award is named in honour of his father, one the Gaels greatest athletes and hockey players Paul Stothart who passed away from a battle with cancer in April of 2012.

The day was a great success with 144 golfers taking part in the sold-out tournament which raised $15,000 For the Men's Hockey team.
