This past weekend, the Queen's Sailing team traveled to New York City for the New York Fall Open. The team sailed Flying Juniors, with
Matti Muru and Cecilia Pierobon in the A-Fleet, and
Josh Yale and Thomas Dauphinee in the B-Fleet. The Gaels sailed in a bay under the bridge to Long Island, where the current was strong and conditions were tough.
Saturday brought light wind and very strong currents which made for some very tough racing conditions. Both teams had moments of success, but struggled adjusting to the Flying Junior boat, which half the team members had never sailed before.
Sunday started with a three hour postponement on land while everyone waited for the wind to fill in. As a result of the delay, both teams were only able to get one race in. The Queen's Gaels finished 13th overall in the regatta.
