"I started playing soccer when I was six, and I played on a boy's team so that I could play with my best friend," said Wolever. "I guess I loved it because I've kept playing since then."
Â
Jenny Wolever, a Toronto native, made her rookie debut with Queen's soccer in 2015. "When I came to visit, it just felt like the right place for me. I had seen the women's team play a few times, and I remember seeing a fast-paced game and a strong team," said Wolever.
Â
Training camp did not fall short of her expectations. "Coming into training camp I was anticipating a high level of play, which is exactly what I encountered," continued Wolever. "I was introduced to a high-tempo, physical group of girls and it was definitely an adjustment playing at that level."
Â
It's safe to say that she adjusted. Upon her rookie season debut, the 5'4 attacker proved a high impact player and offensive force.
Appearing in eight games and scoring four goals, her season was cut short due to injury. However, her time on the field left a lasting impression, and young Wolever was nominated an OUA All-Star.
Â
Overcoming her injury, Wolever played a key role in the success of the soccer program this past 2016 season. With an 11-4-1 regular season finish, the Gaels secured an OUA silver and a berth at the U SPORTS Championship hosted at Acadia in Nova Scotia.
Â
Queen's captured a fourth place national finish, while Wolever was honoured as U SPORTS Championship All-Star for her strong performance during the tournament.
Â
"Jenny's biggest contribution at nationals was her relentless work rate to continuously take on defenders," said fifth year captain Laura Calendar. "Her fitness was a key component for us as she was as explosive at the end of the tournament as she was one day one completely fresh."
Â
Leading the OUA in assists, third year Wolever is off to a great start this season and has stepped into a veteran player role.
"Quick, incisive and a stylish, balanced dribbler, Jenny has established herself as one of the most dynamic strikers in U SPORTS soccer," said head coach
Dave McDowell. "As a senior, we look forward to seeing her continue to develop areas of her game and to offer leadership to a large group of talented incoming first years."
