TORONTO (January 17, 2015) – The Gaels (7-3) grabbed a 66-56 victory over the York Lions (2-9) this Saturday night in Toronto to extend their win streak to five games.
Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels in their win with 15 points while
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) and
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) both scored 12 points of their own. Ishanaa Seupersadsin led all scorers with 19 points despite York's loss.
The Lion's scored the first basket but the Gaels quickly overcame them scoring 22 points while York kept pace with 17 of their own. The Gaels were on their heels in the second quarter as the Lions picked up their defence reducing the Gaels shooting percentage to only 19% in the quarter and tying the score up at 32-32 going into the second half.
The Gaels exploded after halftime outscoring the Lions 24-8 while York scrambled to find some traction losing 12 points to turnovers. Heading into the final frame the Lions were down 56-40 but were able to find a second wind hitting a 13-2 run to shrink the gap between them and Queen's. The Gaels wouldn't let the Lions get too close, pulling away with a minute left and solidifying a 66-56 win over York.
The Gaels will be back in action January 23 when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues at 6:00 pm in the ARC Main Gym.
