KINGSTON, Ont. (March 24 2014) – Anna Rogers (Calgary, Alta.) of women's fencing and Brad Parsons (Warsaw, Ont.) of both nordic skiing and cycling, were named the top student-athletes for the 2013-14 season at the 78th annual Colour Awards Varsity Club athletic banquet Monday night at the ARC Main Gym.

Rogers was awarded the Marion Ross trophy, which is given to the top Varsity Club female student-athlete.  A four-time OUA All-Star, the fourth-year Physics student was a captain this season leading in the foil weapon as the women's fencing team broke through at the OUA Championship to claim the first place banner.  She was a consistent top five finisher at the OUA championships in her career which saw her achieve a gold, silver and two bronze medals.

The Calgary native also excels in the classroom, as she is a three-time Academic All-Star in her career. A true leader she has made a tremendous impact on the team that steadily climbed to the top at the OUA Championship, her teammates voted her team MVP four year's in a row.

Parsons, a fourth-year Civil Engineering student was named the winner of the Jack Jarvis trophy, which is awarded to the top Varsity Club male student-athlete. A two-sport athlete in cycling and nordic skiing, Parsons was part of the four consecutive provincial titles claimed by the Gaels cyclers and also impacted the Nordic team as a student-coach.

This past season on the trails he claimed 8th in the men's A category helping contribute to the championship title while adding two 7th places finishes and coming in at 5th place finish for the overall OUA points standings. Parsons also took on the Eastern Canadian Championships in the snow taking 45th in the senior men 15km skate and 47th in the senior men 20km classic race, both of which featured national team members. Each team felt his leadership both as a coach and a motivator as he strived to unlock the potential of every athlete.

On Tuesday night the Award of Merit Trophy was presented to the Queen's cycling team who won their fourth consecutive University Cup provincial championship. The Gaels dominated the competition taking their fourth title in convincing fashion with a 400 point margin of victory over Guelph.

The Queen's team boasted 1st place finishes in the men's and women's A divisions along with the women's B division and took 2nd in the men's and women's B divisions as well.  This put the Gaels easily in front of the pack finishing with 2000 total points to claim the University Cup.

The Alfie Pierce award recipients for the top club rookies of the year were Lily Jiang (Edmonton) from women's fencing and Alex Wilkie (Almonte, Ont.) from track and field. Jiang was instrumental in clinching the OUA Championship banner for Queen's this year. She finished as an OUA All-Star, took the Fred Wach trophy as the individual gold finisher in the sabre and contributed to the team gold in the sabre as well. Wilkie excelled only as the competitions got tougher for the Gaels Track team this season. At the OUA Championships he finished with an 8th place in the 3000m and 9th in the 1500m, qualifying for the CIS Championship in the 3000m. As the only rookie in the event at nationals, he went on to beat his entry ranking by finishing in 9th place.

Throughout the course of the evening, each Varsity Club also honoured their team award winners as the individual team leaders spoke of their team's successes throughout the year.
