KINGSTON, Ont. (November 1, 2014) - The Gaels grabbed a 69-60 victory against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in their final game of preseason action on Saturday night at the ARC.

Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) was a driving force for the Gaels, leading all scorers with 18 points. Queen's also had big nights from
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.), who scored 13 points, as well as
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) and
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver), who both put up 11 points. The Gee-Gees were led by Jen Stoqua on the offensive front with 17 points and Stephanie MacDonald, in terms of ball control, who grabbed nine rebounds.

It was a physical first half, with the Gee-Gees and the Gaels matching each other with 10 personal fouls each. Queen's had an early lead but the Gee-Gees quickly caught up and managed to lead 15-14 heading into the second quarter. It was a scramble to come out with a lead at halftime as the Gaels fought back, as Wright scoring back-to-back three balls. By the break, the score was tied 33-33. Â Â
Queen's burst out of the gate, pulling ahead early in the second half to gain the lead. The Gee-Gees kept it close, as the Gaels led by only one point going into the final frame. Queen's attacked the basket, drawing fouls and reaching the charity stripe 45 times in the game. With two minutes left, Dixon and
Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B.) both grabbed turnovers culminating with a three ball from Boag giving the Gaels a five point lead. Ottawa sunk a basket in the last seconds but five fouls against them in the last minute gave the Gaels all the advantage they needed to take the game with a 69-60 score at the final buzzer.

The win marks the end of the preseason for the Gaels who will be on the road November 7 when they take on Lakehead at 6pm in their first game of regular season OUA action.
