OTTAWA (October 24, 2014) – The Gaels were defeated by their rivals the Carleton Ravens 66-61 this Sunday in the final day of the Metro Glebe Tournament. The Gaels leave the tournament with a 1-2 record.

Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) led all scorers with 22 points and
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) scored a double-double, shooting 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. The Ravens were led by Heather Lindsay who scored 18 points and Lindsay Shotbolt who scored 13 points.
The Ravens dominated straight off the tip-off, grabbing the early lead and shutting down any attempts the Gaels made to surpass them. The Ravens pulled away nearing the close of the first quarter scoring 12 baskets off of turnovers. The Gaels fought hard to gain the lead and were able to close the gap, but the Ravens still led 37-24 at half.
The Gaels turned up the heat in the second half determined to catch the Ravens, outshooting them 37-29. Queen's kept it close and with just over a minute on the clock had reduced the lead to only one point. In the final minute of play the Ravens hit a streak and locked down their lead to a 66-61 win by the final buzzer.

Day 2On the second day of action in Ottawa, UQAM defeated the Gaels 74-65.
The Gaels close out the tournament on Sunday at 2pm against the host Carleton Ravens.
Day 1Queen's grabbed a 71-65 win in their first game of the tournament against the Memorial University Sea-Hawks.
Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) led all scorers shooting 20 points to add to the Gaels winning score.
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) and
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver) also had great performances each scoring 14 points. The Sea-Hawks were led by Kelia Pond who dropped 18 points and grabbed six defensive rebounds.
The Gaels took the early lead, hitting their offensive stride right from the tip off. The Sea-Hawks managed to gain some traction in the second quarter, dominating the backboard and gaining a lead of 32-29 over the Gaels at halftime. The second half saw aggressive play from both teams as they struggled to grab the upper hand. The Gaels were able to pull away, shooting 57% over the Sea-Hawks who shot 33%. By the final buzzer the Gaels took a 71-65 victory.
The Gaels will continue play in the Metro Glebe tournament on Saturday at 6:00pm when they take on UQAM at Carleton University.
