Men's Volleyball Invitational

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 15, 2014) - The Gaels men's volleyball team hosts the Queen's Invitational on Homecoming Weekend at the ARC, with games at 8pm on Friday and Saturday against Memorial and Montreal, respectively, and at 3:30pm on Sunday against Toronto.

Queen's is coming off a split of their Maritime tour, winning a pair of games against UNB before being defeated twice by No.10 Dalhousie. Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) has picked up where he left off last season, putting up more all-star attacking numbers so far in the preseason. Markus Trence (Orangeville, Ont.) has also done well for the Gaels, contributing offensively for Queen's in exhibition play this year. The Gaels finished the 2013-14 regular season with a 9-11 record, squeaking into the OUA playoffs, where Waterloo defeated Queen's in the first round.

Memorial had a rough season in 2013-14, finishing the year at the bottom of the AUS standings with a winless 0-17 record. The Sea-Hawks also graduated Nathan Tilley, who had the most points of anyone on the Memorial roster last season.

At last year's Queen's Invitational, Montreal topped the Gaels in straight sets to finish the tournament at 1-2. Samuel Landry, who earned a spot among the All-Stars at last year's invitational as well as in the RSEQ, is back for another year, looking to repeat his performance and improve the Carabins standing.

The Varsity Blues split their regular season series with Queen's in 2013-14, beating the Gaels 3-1 in Toronto before ending the year with a 3-0 loss in Kingston. Jake Dysselhof returns to the Varsity Blues lineup for his fifth year. In 2013-14, Dysselhof led Toronto in kills and service aces.
