Women's Basketball Hosts Tindall Invitational

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 1, 2014) - The women's basketball team hosts Acadia at 6pm on Friday, Laval at 2pm on Saturday, and Thompson Rivers at 2pm on Sunday at the Tindall Invitational Tournament this weekend, with all games to be played at the Athletics & Recreation Centre.

Queen's won the OUA East title in 2013-14, qualifying for the CIS Final 8 for the first time since 2002-2003. The Gaels had success in the OUA East individually as well, with head coach Dave Wilson earning Coach of the Year, Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) a spot on the All-Rookie team, Liz Boag (Kingston, Ont.) and Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) First Team All-Stars, and Gemma Bullard (Guelph, Ont.), who was a Second Team All-Star, also merited the OUA East and CIS Tracy MacLeod Award.

The Gaels play their first game of the Tindall Invitational against Acadia at 6pm on Friday at the ARC. Queen's last played the Axewomen at McGill's Invitational Tournament in 2009, where Acadia came out on top 73-49. Often a contender in the AUS, the 2012 AUS Champion Axewomen missed the playoffs after going 5-15 last year. Acadia's Emily MacLeod earned a spot on the AUS All-Rookie team, registering an 18 point and 10 rebound double-double against UNB, with season highs in both categories.

On the second day of action at the tournament, the Gaels battle Laval at 2pm. Queen's and Laval are familiar exhibition foes, with the Gaels winning last year's contest 59-42 at Concordia's winter break tournament. The Rouge et Or were ousted in the first round of the RSEQ playoffs last year, after finishing the regular season at 6-10. Laval's Gabrielle Girard took an RSEQ Second Team All-Star in 2013-14, averaging 6.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Queen's plays Thompson Rivers in their final game of the Tindall Invitational at 2pm on Sunday. The Wolfpack finished the 2013-14 regular season 13-9, but lost in the first round of the Canada West playoffs to a strong Alberta team. Sydney Williams won Canada West Rookie of the Year honours last season with the Wolfpack, scoring 7.4 points per game and pulling down 112 defensive boards, ninth in Canada West.
