Field Hockey Athletes and Coaches Represent Ontario at National Championships

| By:
BRAMPTON, Ont. (June 16, 2013) - Four Queen's Field Hockey athletes participated in the Women's Senior National Field Hockey Championship this past week in Brampton.

Former Gaels captain and winner of the OUA Gail Wilson Award for community service, Allison Wallis (Milton, ON), plus current Queen's athletes Fiona Downey (Kingston, Ont./North Vancouver, B.C.) and Kara Pogue (Haliburton, Ont.) participated as members of the Ontario Senior Women's Team, winning the bronze medal. Current Gael midfielder and provincially-carded athlete Katie Macdonald competed with the Ontario Under-23 team at the tournament, finishing 4th.

Pogue scored a goal and assisted on another in the bronze medal match for a 7 - 2 win against the Ontario Under-23 team. Downey, in-coming Gaels' captain and primarily a defender, made her debut in the forward line against Alberta, scoring three goals in the 9-1 win.

Macdonald, Downey, and Pogue will look to bring their tournament experience competing with and against current national team members to the Gaels 2013 campaign.

Additionally, Queen's head coach Mary-Anne Reid and assistant coach Karl Erickson were assistant coach and manager, respectively, for the Ontario Senior team.
