Queen's Sailing Team Finishes 3rd at Princeton

| By:
This past weekend, September 22-23, the Queen's Sailing Team competed at the Princeton Women's Open in New Jersey.

Kate Thomas, Hilary Grantmyre, Heather Richardson and Joy MacDonald represented Queen's and finished third overall. The sailing conditions were tough, it was very shifty and the wind speeds were up and down throughout the day, ranging between 5-12 knots. The sailing was at Raritan Yacht Club, which is located in a harbour on the Atlantic Ocean. There were 7 teams competing in this regatta and we had some very good races, with many second and third place finishes. We managed to improve throughout the day and after 8 races for both the A and B fleet we were sitting in 3rd with Fordham and Cornell in 1st and 2nd respectively.

On Sunday the conditions were similar to Saturday except the wind was coming out the opposite direction. The shifty conditions led to some very skewed courses which we contended well with and finished the last sets of races consistently. We ended up finishing in the third overall. All in all, we had a great time and were happy with our performance.
