KINGSTON, Ont.James Bambury '04 has been hired as the new Assistant Coach of the Queen's Gaels Women's Basketball team. Head Coach Dave Wilson made the announcement today. Bambury, 30, spent the last two seasons as the Head Coach of the women's basketball team at Royal Military College. This marks a return to Queen's for Bambury, who spent three seasons as a guard on the Gaels' men's basketball team, from 2000-03.

“I'm excited to be able to add James to our program,” said Wilson. “He is a bright young coach, and we know that his coaching experience, both in the OUA as well as in England, will be a great addition for us.”

Prior to joining RMC, Bambury coached in England. He was the Head Women's Basketball Coach of Leeds Metropolitan University from 2008-10, where his squad won the British Universities and Colleges Premier North Division championship, and was runner-up in the national final. He also served as an Assistant Coach with the England Universities Games Team in 2010 and Associate Coach of the England Under-18 national women's team and the Head Men's Development Coach at Leeds Metropolitan from 2008-09.

”I am extremely excited to be back at Queen's and am looking forward to the opportunity to work with the team,” said Bambury. “ Coach Wilson is incredibly well-respected across Canada and I am looking forward to learning from him as well as Coach Freeman.  Having seen this team grow over the past two years, I am thrilled to now have a chance to work with them instead coach against them. “

Bambury holds a Master of Elementary Education degree from Carlow University, and was previously pursuing his doctorate at Leeds Metropolitan. His appointment is effective immediately.

The Gaels open the 2012-13 season on Saturday, September 22 as they host Morrisville State.
