Gaels fall to Hobart in men’s soccer preseason play

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. – A goal in the 30th minute gave the Hobart Statesmen a 1-0 victory over the Queen's Gaels in men's soccer preseason action in Geneva, N.Y. The Statesmen took advantage of a defensive miscue by the Gaels to hand the visitors their first defeat of their three-game American tour.

“We got off to a good start and maintained possession much better in this game,” said Chris Gencarelli, the Gaels' head coach. “We also saw improvement in our attacking in the second half.”

The Gaels' best chance to break the shutout came after the interval when Eric Koskins and Zach Wood-Seems combined on a one-two play, leading to a chance for Nathan Klemencic that went begging.

Max Materne started the match in goal for the Gaels, with Taylor Reynolds taking the gloves in the second half.

The Gaels (0-1-1) conclude their American tour on Wednesday against the Cornell Big Red. Kickoff in Ithaca, N.Y. is set for 6 p.m.
