Gaels finish season on six-game winning streak

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 13, 2011) – With a 3-1 victory over the York Lions, the Gaels finished the 2010-11 regular season on a six-game winning streak, having won 10 of 12 games in the new year. The women finish the season at 15-8-4, good for 4th place in the OUA.

The Gaels took a 3-0 lead deep into the third period before York's Jennifer Petkovics of Mississauga scored her 13th goal of the season. It was the only blemish on the night for Gaels' goaltender Karissa Savage of Calgary, who stopped 18 shots.

Brittany McHaffie of Guelph, Ont. started the scoring with a first period tally, before the Conroy-Kench-Thomson line scored two more. All three players finished with two points on the night.

Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont. finished the season 2nd in the OUA in scoring with 33 points, including 15 goals. Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., fifth, and Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., nineteenth, also finished in the top 20 in scoring.

Having split games all season, both Savage and Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont. finished top six in the OUA in goals against average.

The Gaels begin playoff action at home on Saturday, February 19 against the Windsor Lancers in the OUA Quarter-finals. The Lancers won the season series 2-1; however, the Gaels won 3-0 on December 3rd on home ice.
