Gaels bury Toronto in shootout 2-1

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 12, 2011) – Tied at one apiece after regulation, the Gaels won in a shootout, downing the Varsity Blues on two straight goals.

Toronto's Brenley Jorgensen of Kingston, Ont. scored the game's first goal at the 7:45 mark in the third period. The goal looked to be the game winner until a late third period shot beat Nicole Kesteris of Aurora, Ont.

Shelby Aitcheson of London, Ont. scored the game tying goal for Gaels, keeping the night alive. The McHaffie sisters of Guelph, Ont. added the assists on the goal.

After a scoreless overtime period, the Gaels took to the shootout, where linemates Becky Conroy (Pembroke, Ont.) and Elizabeth Kench (Gananoque, Ont.) each scored. Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville saved two shots in the shootout, along with 19 shots on the night.

The Gaels close their regular season on Sunday against the York Lions, at Constantine Arena in Kingston, Ont. Queen's is expected to compete in the playoffs for a chance at the OUA championship.
