Scholars and Champions: Queen's Athletics honours Academic All-Stars at Reception

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 17, 2011) - Queen's Athletics and Recreation honoured their student-athlete award winners who earned an 80% average while competing in a Varsity Sport in 2010-11 on Thursday afternoon.

The 2011 Academic All-Stars Reception presented by Enterprise honoured athletes from the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Law, School of Business and School of Graduate Studies and Research.

On hand addressing the student's on their success was Vice-Principal and Dean of Student Affairs Ann Tierney and Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) Alan Harrison.

The top academic athlete Kara Pogue of Harcourt, Ont. who is a second year field hockey player joined Harrison to unveil the 2010-11 plaque that will be added to the Academic All-Stars section in the Varsity Athletics Hall of Honour.

The awards ceremony and reception took place at the Athletics and Recreation Centre with faculty/staff representatives were present to help deliver the awards.

Queen's University consistently ranks in the top three Canadian Universities who produce the highest number of CIS Academic All-Canadians and OUA Academic All-Stars.  At Queen's we are proud of our student-athletes and their coaches for their hard work and commitment to academics - they embody the Queen's tradition of excellence.
