WINDSOR, Ont. (January 22, 2011) –
Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., scored two goals in a losing effort Saturday afternoon as the Gaels fell to the Windsor Lancers 5-3.
The loss snaps the Gaels mini two game winning streak and puts them in sixth place in the OUA standings with a record of 9-8-4 with six games remaining in the regular season.
In a flurry of first period action, the Gaels sprinted out the gate as Conroy netted two quick markers, the first shorthanded, at 5:05 and 7:23 of the first. Lancer's forward Candance Rapchak of Stoney Point, Ont., tallied their first goal shorthanded halfway through the first period bringing the score to 2-1.
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., put the Gaels up 3-1 with her sixth goal of the season at 16:30 of the first. Windsor forward Stephanie Herbert of Windsor, Ont., closed out the first period scoring with a goal with just over two minutes remaining in the first period.
The Gales would be unable to muster any more offence as the Lancers proceeded to score three more goals on their way to a 5-3 victory.
Mel Dodd-Moher, of Stittsville, Ont., stopped 22 of 26 shots in the loss.
The Gaels take to the ice again tomorrow when they take on the University of Western Ontario Mustangs in London at 2:00pm.
