Pidgen guides Canada to fifth place finish at FISU Rowing Championships

SZEGED, Hungary (August 16, 2010) – Third year Queen's rower Sarah Pidgen of Orillia, Ont., helped lead Team Canada to a fifth place finish in the women's four event at the FISU Championships this past weekend in Szeged, Hungary.

Pidgen, along with Larissa Lagzdins from Brock University, Lacey Crawley from the University of Victoria, and Audra Vair from the University of British Columbia, crossed the line in a time of 7:55.84. Great Britain won the event in a time of 7:40.54.

"It was tough having two good races the second one better than the first and then finishing fifth," said Lagzdins. "We did struggle in the cross head wind."

Meanwhile, fellow Gael Greg McNally of Carlisle, Ont., helped his boat to a third place finish in the 'B' Final of the men's four event. The Team Canada boat, which also consisted of Patrick O'Connor and Keegan Drummond from Brock University and Mike Mason from the University of Victoria, finished in a time of 6:08.28.
