LUCERNE, Switzerland (July 12, 2010) – Rares Crisan, of Mississauga, Ont., won a silver medal this past weekend in the men's lightweight pairs event at the Rowing World Cup in Switzerland.
Crisan, who was paired with Matt Jensen of Innerkip, Ont., won their semifinal heat on Saturday morning, coming from behind to edge France 2 at the finished line in a time of six minutes, 46.27 seconds.. In the final later in the day, it was once again Canada and France at the finish line but this time the French got the better of the Canadians as they took home silver in a time of 6:44.39.
"With every race we've been getting better. We had a chance to catch the French near the end, but it just didn't happen," said Jensen, who is more experienced in the pair. "Overall I'm happy for Rares winning his first international medal and it was a good result."
Other notable Gaels results from the event include current team member

Isolda Penney of Kingston, Ont., finished second in the 'B' final of the women's single while Mike Wilkinson of Vancouver finished fifth in the 'B' final of men's four.
