KINGSTON, Ont. (April 6, 2010) – Queen's men's hockey Head Coach
Brett Gibson announced today that former Western Hockey League (WHL) goaltender David Aime of Clandeboye, Man., has committed to the Gaels for the 2010-2011 season.
Aime played three seasons in the WHL, starting his career with the Prince Albert Raiders before moving to the Red Deer Rebels. His best season in the league came in 2006-07 when he appeared in 27 games, posting a 6-8-2 record.
Last year, the 6'4”, 200 lbs. goalie was named the Top Goaltender of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) where he was a member of the OCN Blizzard. He helped the Blizzard to the fifth-best defence in the league as he recorded a 2.58 goals against average, 0.911 save percentage and three shutouts in 60 games.
"I am thrilled with the opportunity to further my hockey career with Queen's University while getting an education at one of the top academic schools in Canada,” said Aime. “I look forward to contributing to the Gaels hockey team and helping them reach the ultimate goal of a championship."
"David will give us two very capable starters and internal competition is great, especially in between the pipes,” commented Gibson. “He was an MVP candidate last year in the MJHL and with over 40 games started in the WHL, his experience will be a great asset for our team."
