Becky Conroy of Pembroke, Ont., along with OUA leading scorer
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., and OUA First Team All-Star
Alison Bagg of Kingston, Ont., will lead a team of 20 student-athletes in an exhibition contest against the Canadian U-18 women's hockey team tomorrow night in Toronto.
The matchup is meant to serve as a tune-up game for the U-18 national team as they prepare for the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) world women's under-18 championship, slated to begin March 27 in Chicago, Ill.
The three Gaels will have a familiar face behind the bench as 2009-10 OUA Coach of the Year
Matt Holmberg will serve as an assistant to Toronto Varsity Blues and Olympic gold medal winning coach Karen Hughes.
Conroy, Kench and Bagg were the backbone of a Gaels team that posted the most wins and points in team history this past season. Kench and Conroy finished one-two in OUA scoring with 38 and 34 points respectively while Kench also led the nation in assists with 26. Bagg was the anchor a Gaels defensive squad which was third in the OUA in goals against (63 in 27 games).
The all-star game will take place tomorrow night at the Mastercard Centre for Hockey Excellence in Toronto. Opening face-off is set for 7:00 pm.
