KINGSTON, Ont. (March 15, 2010) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce that
Matt Hulse of Hartington, Ont., and
Veronica Catry of Kingston, Ont., have been named the Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 14.
Hulse had a standout performance at this past weekend's CIS track and field championships held in Windsor. The fourth year physical and health education major medal won the men's 1000m race and followed that up with a silver medal in the 1500m race. In the 1000m event, Hulse edged out Matt Walters from the University of Windsor by 26/100ths of a second to capture the gold medal in a time of 2 minutes, 25.08 seconds. In the 1500m race, Hulse finished just a second and a half behind Guelph's Kyle Boorsma to earn the silver. The 18 team points that Hulse earned in the two events led the Gaels to a 10th place finish in the overall team standings.
Catry led the Queen's Gaels women's track and field team to a fourth place finish in the 4x200m relay event at the CIS Championships. Their time of 1:42.71 was just a second behind the third place from Western and good enough to earn them five points in the overall team standings. Catry also helped the Gaels to a sixth place finish in the 4x400m race which earned the Gaels another three points in the overall team standings.
Tune in to 98.9 The Drive on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am to hear one of these athletes go head-to-head in athletic competition with morning show co-host Matt Bisson.
