| By:
WINDSOR, Ont. (March 12, 2010) - Matt Hulse of Hartington, Ont., won the Men's 1000m event Friday evening at the CIS Track & Field Championships in Windsor.

Hulse ran a time 2 minutes, 25.08 seconds to edge out Matt Walters of the University of Windsor by 26/100ths of a second. Michael Del Monte from the University of Toronto finished third in a time of 2:25.37.

Hulse came into the championships ranked second in the event behind Del Monte after his second place finish at the OUA Championships two weeks earlier.

The Gaels success on the track started earlier in the day when both the men's and women's 4x200m relay teams qualified for the finals scheduled for tomorrow. The Queen's women raced to a time of 1:43.23 in their heat while the men ran a time of 1:30.04, less than a second and a half off the top time posted by Western. It is the first time that the both teams have qualified for the finals at the same CIS Championships.

The final events of the day were the 4x800m events in which the Gaels earned more points in the team standings. The Queen's women's team finished sixth posting a time of 9:14.25 to earn the Gaels three points while the men's team finished eighth in a time of 7:51.52 to earn a single point.

Tomorrow, Hulse will look to claim his second gold of the championships in the 1000m event while both the 4x200m teams and the 4x400m teams will also be in search for hardware.
