KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8, 2010) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce that Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsivlle, Ont., and Michael Amoroso of Toronto, have been named the Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 7.

Dodd-Moher helped the No. 9 Queen's Gaels clinch second place in the OUA and the all-important first round playoff bye this weekend. The first year biology major opened her weekend with a 31-save shutout performance against the Windsor Lancers, a team that had won four games in-a-row prior to playing the Gaels. On Sunday against Western, Dodd-Moher allowed just one goal as the Gaels officially clinched the second seed with a 4-1 victory. The rookie goaltender now has three shutouts on the season to go along with 13 victories and has posted a 1.76 GAA and a 0.944 save percentage.

Amoroso had a monster game against the Western Mustangs on Friday night. The third year english major recorded season-highs in both kills and points as Queen's upset Western in four sets. Amoroso posted 19 kills and 22 points as the Gaels avenged their four-set loss from earlier in the season. The 6'7 Middle followed up that performance with 8 kills and a stuff block against Windsor Lancers in the Gaels straight set win on Saturday.

Tune in to 98.9 The Drive on Wednesday morning at 8:30 am to hear one of these athletes go head-to-head in athletic competition with morning show co-host Matt Bisson.
