KINGSTON, Ont. (February 8, 2010) - The following is an examination of the upcoming week in Queen's Athletics.

Weekly Outlook

Women's Basketball
Regular season record:
12-8 (Tied 2nd OUA East)
Last week's results: Lost to Ryerson 74-60, Lost to Toronto 70-61

The Gaels wrap up their regular season schedule with a pair of games against the Ottawa Gee Gees and the Carleton Ravens. Queen's is in a pack of four teams currently separated by two points in the OUA East standings and will need victories if they hope to host a home playoff game this season.

Men's Basketball
Regular season record:
10-9 (3rd OUA East)
Last week's results: Lost to Ryerson 63-35, Defeated Toronto 70-62

After a tough game against Ryerson, Queen's bounced back with a great performance against the Toronto Varsity Blues and will look to carry that momentum into this weekend's games. The Gaels host Ottawa and Carleton, two of the top teams in the country, and will be looking to upset both teams in their bid to secure third spot in the OUA East.

Cross Country

Queen's will welcome over 25 countries to compete at Fort Henry Hill as we host the 17th World University Cross Country Championships April 11, 2010. www.xc2010.com

Fencing

The Gaels will compete in the OUA Championships this weekend in Ottawa.

Women's Hockey
Regular season record:
18-5-2 (2nd OUA)
Last week's results: Defeated Windsor 3-0, Defeated Western 4-1

Two victories last weekend helped the Gaels clinch the second seed in the OUA. To finish out their regular season, the Gaels will look to end Laurier's 24 game winning streak on Saturday and try to sweep their season series with Waterloo on Sunday.

Men's Hockey
Regular season record:
14-11-1 (5th OUA East)
Last week's results: Defeated RMC 3-0

After winning the Carr-Harris Challenge Cup last weekend, the Gaels finish up their regular season this week with games against the Ryerson Rams and the Nipissing Lakers. Queen's currently sits fifth in the OUA East and will need to win both games and hope that Carleton loses if they want to finish fourth in the division.

Nordic Skiing

The Gaels finish up their season at the OUA Championships in Guelph this weekend.

Squash

The Gaels will travel to Waterloo this weekend to compete in their final tournament of the season, the OUA Championships.

Track & Field

After an excellent weekend at the York Classic, the Gaels will be States-side this weekend when they compete at the Cornell Kane Memorial Invitational.

Last week's results: Defeated Western 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 31-29), Defeated Windsor 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-23)

A pair of key wins last weekend as the Gaels tied for first place heading into their final regular season game of the year Wednesday night. Queen's will host the RMC Paladins in a makeup game from earlier this season and a victory, plus two Toronto losses, will clinch the Gaels top-spot in the OUA East.

Men's Volleyball
Regular season record:
13-4 (3rd OUA)
