KINGSTON, Ont. (February 1, 2010) – Queen's Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce that
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., and
Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., have been named the Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 31.
Kench vaulted her way to the top of the OUA scoring race with a five point weekend against UOIT. On Saturday, the fourth year history major had a goal and an assist as the Gaels picked up a 4-3 overtime win. She followed that up with a three assist performance on Sunday as the Gaels won 5-2. Kench now leads the OUA in scoring with 32 points on the season and her 22 assists are the most of any women's hockey player in the CIS.
Leger continued to show this weekend why he is one of the top players in Canada this season. The fourth year sociology major had 50 points and 33 rebounds in a pair of wins over the Laurentian Voyageurs and the York Lions. Leger is now averaging 22.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game this season, ranking him fourth and first respectively in the country. He is also the only player in Canada who averages more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.
