Gaels shutout Lancers in chippy affair

KINGSTON, Ont. (December 3, 2010) – Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., and Kelsey Thomson of Martintown, Ont., assisted on all three goals, as the Queen's Gaels shut out the Windsor Lancers 3-0 Friday night.

Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont. stopped 31 shots, including 11 in the third period to lead the Gaels to victory. It was her third shutout of the season.

Windsor hurt themselves by taking 36 minutes in penalties in the contest leading to nine Gaels poweplays. Candace Rapchak of Stoney Point, Ont. led the team with eight penalty minutes.

Queen's took a 1-0 lead into the second period thanks to an early powerplay goal from Katie Duncan of Kitchener, Ont. The Gaels followed with two more unanswered goals in the second off the sticks of Brittany McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., and captain Michelle Hunt of Mississauga, Ont., to give them the 3-0 lead.

The Gaels continue their last homestand of 2010 with a game against the Western Mustangs on Saturday December 4th at 8:30pm in the Kingston Memorial Centre. Queen's opens the New Year on the road against Waterloo and Wilfred Laurier on January 8th and 9th, respectively.
