KINGSTON, Ont. (October 9, 2010) –
Morgan McHaffie of Guelph, Ont., scored Queen's lone goal as the Gaels lost 2-1 to the No. 3 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in Kingston on Saturday afternoon.
Laurier took the early lead with a goal from Vanessa Schabkar of Etobicoke, Ont., at 17:07 of the first period. Golden Hawks' right winger, Paula Lagamba of Toronto, scored in the second period to take the 2-0 advantage into the third period.
McHaffie scored at 12:32 of the third with
Elizabeth Kench of Gananoque, Ont., and sister
Brittany McHaffie of Guelph, Ont. credited with the assists.
All three goals in the game came on the power play with Laurier converting on both attempts and the Gaels going one-for-three.
Queen's goalie,
Mel Dodd-Moher of Stittsville, Ont., had 30 saves in the game while Liz Knox turned away 23 shots in the win.
The Gaels are 1-1 after their opening two games of the season and will next play the Western Mustangs next Saturday in London. Puck drops at 4:00pm
