KINGSTON, Ont. (September 26, 2009) – Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C. scored 21 points in the Queen's Gaels 59-50 overtime win over the King's College Eagles on Saturday evening.

The Eagle's carried the lead for most of the first half, while the Gaels attempted to gain some offensive momentum. Christine Wallace led the Gaels through the opening half with an early 3-pointer, and a total of 6 points in the half. The Gaels relied on Skippon's defense and low post presence to collect the defensive boards. At the end of the first half the Gael's were trailing the Eagles 23-20.

The Gaels came out strong the second half in a clear attempt to gain the lead. Brittany Moore of Cannon, Ont., an OUA first-team all star, contributed two of her signature 3-pointers to help narrow the gap. King's College had foul trouble, and by the end of the second half two of their starters had fouled out the game. This allowed Queen's to hold a tied score of 50-50 for the final minute of the quarter and take the game into overtime.

The Gaels controlled the majority of possession in the overtime. With a strong defence in the final minutes the Gaels held the Eagles to a scoreless overtime period, and ended the game with a 59-50 victory. Skippon ended the game with 21 points and 9 rebounds.

The Queen's Gaels Women's Basketball team plays again on October 16th in the McGill tournament in Montreal.
