AMHERSTVIEW, Ont. (September 20, 2009) –
Hailey Ingleson of Oakville, Ont. fired a three over par 75 to help lead the Queen's women's golf team to a first place finish at the annual Queen's Invitational hosted by Amherstview Golf Club on Sunday.
With three of the four team members scores counting, the Gaels combined for a final tally of 230 while Western was a close second at 234. Waterloo captured third place final score of 256. In all six women's team competed including Carleton, Guelph, Ottawa, Waterloo, Western and host Queen's.
Ingleson also captured the silver medal in the women's individual competition finishing just one shot behind Western's Caitlin Jennings of Vancouver. Waterloo's Tiffany Terrier shot 75 and took third place using tie breaking rules.
Other Gaels results included
Kate Burnett of Ottawa carding a 76 (+4),
Casey Ward of Picton, Ont. shooting 79 (+7) and
Justice Durland of Oakville posting 85 (+13).
In the men's competition Waterloo claimed the team title posting a combined seven-under score of 281. Ottawa finished second at 292 while Queen's placed third at 296. The men's competition sees five players contend with four scores counting towards the overall team result.
Waterloo's Simon McInnis blistered the par-72 Amhurstview Course carding a seven-under 65 to win the individual portion by five strokes. Brian Decker of McMaster of posted a two-under 70 for second place while Garrett Rank of Waterloo took third with a one-under 71.
Kingston's
Sean Lackey was the top Gael recording a even-par 72 to help Queen's to a third place finish.
Taylor Henderson of Gormley and
Vince Castronovo of Richamond Hill each posted a one-over 73 while captain
Mike Hossack of Mississauga shot 82 for the Gaels.

Justin Gilman of Kingston, Ont., (73),
Brian Siu of Oakville, Ont. (76), and

Next week Queen's will travel to London, Ont. for a two-day tournament hosted by the University of Western Ontario. The event is slated for September 24 and 25 at the St. Thomas and Sunningdale Golf Clubs in the London area.
