KINGSTON, Ont. (June 22, 2009) - Ontario Basketball is currently coordinating a FREE clinic on June 25th, 2009 at Queen’s University for a new program called Skills Training Education Program (STEPs). The intent of this program is to provide a safe and intimidation-free way for youngsters who want to be active; using basketball as the vehicle. .

This two hour basketball skills clinic is geared towards kids between the ages of eight to 14 ( all other ages are welcomed to attend as well). In addition, the sessions are FREE so please inform any of your teams whom may be interested in attending. No registration required.

Coach Christine Stapleton, U16 Cadet National Basketball Team coach and Associate Director of Athletics at the University of Waterloo will be leading the clinic.

We will be filming and photographing the participants while they are performing basic movement and basketball skills. This footage will be reviewed, analyzed and used to determine the key points that need to be emphasized to young kids on various fundamentals. This will help develop posters geared towards kids using the appropriate context and language skills needed to communicate each skill. Skills involved include shooting, passing, defensive structured rebounding, lay-ups and ball handling.

Other confirmed dates are listed below. Please contact Nina Ghassemi at (416) 426-7164 or email student1@basketball.on.ca for more information.
