Melville top Gael at Canadian University/College Championship

Hamilton, Ont. (May 29, 2009) – Queen’s men’s golf squad finished 18th at the Canadian University/College Golf Championship conducted by the Royal Canadian Golf Association (RCGA).  The championship was hosted by the King’s Forest Golf Club in Hamilton, Ont.

Exchange student Duncan Melville of Scotland was the Gael’s top golfer recording a three day total of 82-83-73—238 (+22). Melville stayed in Canada to participate in the event following the completion of the school year.

Patrick Forbes of Toronto who has led the Gaels at the previous three Canadian University/College Golf Championships finished one-stroke behind Melville with a three-day total of 82-81-76. Following the tournament, Forbes announced his intention to pro and will compete in the Massachusetts Open from June 22-24 in Belmont, Mass.

The championship was cut short by one round due to heavy rain that fell on Thursday of the event. Queen’s finished with a combined team total of 328-319-314—961 (+97). The best four of five scores count towards the daily totals. The University of British Columbia captured the event with a combined total of 300-282-292-874 +10.
