Montreal (December 15, 2008) – The Montreal Alouettes' Vice President and General Manager Jim Popp announced that
Mike Giffin (Kingston, Ont.) was one of 13 players to have signed a contract for 2009 and is expected at the team's training camp next June.
Giffin just completed an impressive campaign with the Queen's Gaels securing the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Most Valuable Player award and was a runner-up for the Hec Crighton award as the nation's top player.
He earned his second consecutive OUA rushing title running for 1,061-yards during the regular season. He averaged just over seven yards per carry rushing three-times over 200-yards. He also led the OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) in touchdowns with 14 with 12 of them coming on the ground.
He also compiled a string of 14 consecutive regular season games with over 100-yards rushing that spanned three season and broke multiple school records in his breakout season in 2007. The fourth-year veteran also became Queen's all-time leading rusher with 3,110-yards eclipsing alumnus Larry Mohr by 95-yards.
