Fourth place at Divisional Championships

Guelph, Ont. (November 16, 2008) - Strong dedication and hard work paid with a strong showing at the Divisional championships held at the University of Guelph this past weekend.
Final combined men’s and women’s teams scores placed Queen’s in fourth place behind Laurentian, Guelph and first place McMaster.
The meet started off strong on Saturday with the women taking third place over close rivals Brock and Laurentian .By the end of the Sunday session they had successfully defended their position, narrowly beating Brock by two points.
Women’s captain Whitney Lum finished in the top eight in all four of her individual events. Her veteran teammates Jenelle Kasper, Kelsey Wibbing and Kaite McIntosh followed suit with very strong performances including a number of personal bests. Rookie Amanda Schembri captured silver in the 50 fly and scored well in each of her other individual events.
On the men’s side team captain Julian Chang brought home a bronze medal in the 50 free. Veteran teammates Dustin Lam and Jamie Loh each brought home considerable points scoring in each of their four individual events. Lam showed off his sprinting speed with two sixth place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 60 back stroke, while Loh showed strong endurance placing fourth in the 200 breast stroke and seventh in the 400 IM .
In total, 10 of the 12 men scored points this weekend but all 12 had strong potential to score. Despite stellar performances the men placed fifth overall a behind McMaster, Guelph, Laurentian and York.
In the relay portion of the competiton the women’s 4 x 100 freestyle relay consisting of Whitney Lum, Amanda Schembri, Jenelle Kasper and Alex Munn was the race of the weekend. Collectively the team shaved over six seconds off their personal best this year.
The Gaels race season is done for 2008 and will return with two home and two away meets in January with the OUA Championships being held at the University of Ottawa in February
